Ministry of Environment and Water (KASA) celebrates 11 th and Malaysia’s first virtual exhibition for the International Greentech and Eco Products Exhibition and Conference Malaysia (IGEM) 2020. IGEM returns for the 11 th time, this year via a Virtual Platform from 19 to 23 October targeting business leads of RM1.6 billion, through the convergence of more than 250 exhibitors and 10,000 expected global visitors from over 15 countries.
Organised by the Ministry of Environment and Water (KASA) through Malaysian Green Technology and Climate Change Centre (MGTC), IGEM is the region’s largest green technology business and innovation platform set to attract key industry players from around the globe to showcase the latest breakthroughs in green technology.
YB Dato’ Sri Tuan Ibrahim bin Tuan Man, Minister of KASA said,” This year themed Energizing Sustainability – The 11th edition of IGEM targets participation of around 10,000 viewers at a given time and date. This program provides 24-hour access that can be visited and watched from around the world. MGTC targets 250 exhibition booths and participation from 17 countries. Issues to be discussed would be on mitigating the 70% global population living in cities by 2050, river pollution, working together to end plastic waste, reducing greenhouse gas emissions & more efficient LEDs’ amongst other issues.
“ He said: “the Ministry has placed high hopes on MGTC as a leading agency to promote country’s green technology and climate change agenda. Organizing IGEM virtually not only broaden the business opportunities but it is in line with the Industrial Revolution 4.0 (IR 4.0) which provides extensive exposure to adapt the digital era among industry players. This is also taking into consideration on the impact of Covid-19 on exhibitions, hence the executive decision to organize IGEM virtually.
" MGTC Chief Executive Officer, Shamsul Bahar Mohd Nor said, IGEM 2019 last year celebrated its 10 th year anniversary a business leads worth close to RM6 billion and attracted 40,000 visitations from 43 countries. Since its introduction in 2010, IGEM has successfully generated more than RM 30 billion in business leads and to date has attracted more than 490,000 visitors and companies from over 60 countries.
The primary objective of IGEM is to be the gateway to ASEAN’s thriving green technology market and thereby empower the growth of green cities across the region. IGEM 2019 will focus on highlighting innovations in the five key sectors of green technology, encompassing Renewable Energy, Energy Efficiency, Waste Technology & Management, Green Financing and Green Manufacturing.
This is the 11th time that the IGEM event is organised in Malaysia. For this year’s IGEM 2020 YAB Prime Minister has been invited for the very first time virtually to officiate the IGEM 2020 Opening Ceremony. So far 9 countries, State of Kelantan and the Ministry of International Trade & Industry (MITI) have also given their commitment to participate at IGEM 2020.
Currently, IGEM 2020 has confirmed participation from China and High Commission of Canada, for international pavilions. While key solar players such as Jinko Solar, Hanwha Q Cells, JA Solar, Megajana, Solarvest, PlusSolar, Concord, Longi, Huawei Technologies, Sungrow and Cenviro, McDonald’s, TNB Energy Services, Daikin, Malakoff, DRB-HICOM Environmental Services together with new exhibitors for example Telekom Malaysia, the Embassy of Netherlands, Germany, Korea, Sweden and Belgium have all expressed interest to exhibit at IGEM 2020.
