Taiwanese Smart Manufacturing, Driving the Automotive Industry

With highly skilled scientists and engineers, Taiwan has carved out a reputation as a powerhouse and incubator for many things, ranging from biotechnology to alternative energy supplies. This includes the smart manufacturing for the automotive industry. With the advent of IoT, intelligent manufacturing now plays a key role in ensuring that automotive manufacturers are competitive and profitable.

Taiwan being at the forefront of the development of smart automotive manufacturing process has conducted a “Smart Machine Tools for Automotive and Parts Manufacturing” online showcase (28 Oct), an international promotional campaign run by the Bureau of Foreign Trade (BOFT) and the Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA).


With the pandemic shutting down factories and towns, the Taiwanese machinery industry has suffered during Q1 and Q2. However, the pandemic has also prevailed the contactless phenomenon, which has created emerging opportunities in smart machine tools industry as other industries started to focus on accelerating automation, said Mr. Simon Wang, Executive Vice President of TAITRA during the online campaign.


This event focused on four winners of the prestigious Taiwan Excellence Award winners, including:

SEYI – With more than 50 years of experience, SEYI is a leading manufacturer of medium-large servo presses. Their Straight Side Eccentric Gear Servo Press offers flexible stamping profiles to operate various processes for medium & large lightweight auto parts. In addition, the combination of progressive die with pendulum curve can double productivity, saving more 50% energy.


JAINNHER – Specializes in the development of centreless grinding technology. Their Centerless Grinding Machine is specially made for external grinding and compatible with various kinds of automatic devices. In order to ensure stability and rigidity, it is heat-treated with normalizing procedure prior to machining. It is also compatible with various kind of automatic device.


YDPM – An expert in precision machinery and has product distribution across 5 continents. Their Horizontal Machining Centres MH-630 PLUS focuses on high acceleration, modular market demand, and efficient process. With T structure of two-axis moving column design, it can present high acceleration easily, reaching max feed rate up to 50m/min.


TONGTAI – A leading machine tools manufacturer in Taiwan who is well known for their turnkey solutions. Gathering the technologies of IoT, CPS, FMS, and MES, their Intelligent Manufacturing Solution focuses on integrating comprehensive manufacturing data and inputting information into the customer’s ERP system and theirs supply chain system for further applications.


TAITRA will also hold the “Taipei International Machine Tool Show (TIMTOS)” during March 2021 to highlight Taiwan’s strengths and to provide an avenue for industry players to connect.
